Archangel Imaging wins grant from the Sustainable Innovation Fund with Innovate UK

Updated: Dec 12, 2020

Archangel Imaging are delighted to announce that they have won funding from Innovate UK as part of the Sustainable Innovation Fund. Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, is investing up to £191 million to fund single and collaborative research and development projects as part of the Sustainable Innovation Fund over the next two years. The aim of these competitions is to help all sectors of the UK rebuild after the effects of COVID-19.

The Sustainable Innovation Fund is funding 1,103 projects, 1189 UK businesses and totalling over £130 million in support across the UK.

Archangel Imaging have been working on versatile AI & robotics remote monitoring and response technology applicable to many use cases. This ranges from security and maintenance monitoring of potential pipeline oil leaks to protect the environment, to empowering researchers and conservationists in antipoaching and wildlife study efforts.

The 2020 pandemic lockdown(s) has increased the need to remotely detect and respond quickly to incidents and accidents happening in real life. Archangel Imaging's management platform, Cerebella.ai, alongside the in-house smart AI cameras Argus X and partner robotics solutions, are designed to work in many environments and are integrated with existing work flows so staff can protect more with less. Following Harwell's Cross Collaboration project funding to improve drone integration, the Sustainable Innovation grant funds the further development of Cerebella capability and number of integrations to make the platform truly collaborative and open source. This helps customers and emerging technology vendors to connect and form effective, complex human-machine teams with ease to collaboratively detect and solve real-world problems like bush fires, poaching, and oil leaks more effectively.

Furthermore, our inhouse and partner technology are designed to harness renewable energy such as solar power, allowing them to work sustainably in outdoor environments, as 24/7 first-line guards and responders to complement human teams.

In 2019 Archangel Imaging also won The AIconics ‘AI for Good’ award presented at 10 Downing Street.

Innovate UK Executive Chair Dr Ian Campbell said:

“In these difficult times we have seen the best of British business innovation. The pandemic is not just a health emergency but one that impacts society and the economy.

“Archangel Imaging, along with every initiative Innovate UK has supported through this fund, is an important step forward in driving sustainable economic development. Each one is also helping to realise the ambitions of hard-working people.”

About Archangel Imaging:

Archangel Imaging is an award-winning startup that helps companies protect their remote assets. Sometimes those assets are railways, sometimes oil flowing through pipelines, sometimes it's ivory on the nose of rhino. Archangel Imaging offers affordable and highly flexible plug-and-play solutions tailored to the end user’s needs without the need for existing infrastructure. Its smart devices run AI algorithms locally on the cameras, and can be integrated with smart sensors, UAVs or drones. Users can then coordinate these different resources, easily and effectively, through our human-machine collaboration platform called Cerebella.
